Activities and Social Events

Newcomers Club offers a variety of activities each month. You can select any activities that interest you or try them all to see what fits.

All of our activities are for socializing, don’t worry if you don’t know how to play a game, we welcome newbies and we’d love to teach you. So please feel comfortable to come and learn.

We are always looking for new activities, if you have something you would like to see added let us know.

Here is the list of our current activities.

Monthly Out-to Lunch, Brunch & Movie Day, Chat & Chew – Day and Nighttime, Monthly meeting lunches or dinners.

Couples Game Night which features the card game “14” or the dominos game Mexican Train.
Mexican Train is a domino game.  The object of the game is to play all the dominoes onto one or more chains, or “trains”, emanating from a central hub or “station”.  14 is a card game that is very easy to master. You play 14 rounds with the cards building up from 3 to 14, the object is to form combinations with the appropriate number of cards each round.

Card Games:
Euchre is an excellent social card game, simple in concept but with a high degree of subtlety in the play. Using only ace through 9.

Pinochle is a trick taking game for 2-4 players. Each hand is played in three phases: bidding, melds, and tricks.

Canasta is a game of the rummy family. Partners make melds of 7 of the same rank and “go out” by playing all cards in their hand

Continental Cards consist of seven rounds with different variations of sets and runs required.

Hand and Foot is a version of Canasta. This version is a quad deck game that is played with a hand and a foot.

6 Hand Canasta is another variation with 6 people using teams of three.

Samba is a variation of Canasta.  The distinguishing feature of the game is that you can make sequences as well as sets. 

Rummikub is a tile-based game for 2 to 4 players, combining elements of the card game rummy and mahjong.

Dice Games: 
Mah Jong is played with four players using tiles with Chinese symbols. The goal of the game is to be the first to match one’s tiles to a specific hand.

Bunco (Day and Nighttime) is a very simple game, Bunco is achieved when a person rolls three-of-a-kind and all three numbers match the round number.

Coloring Club rounds out the list of activities that you can try and participate in.

For the bowler in you, we do have a Bowling League. Beginners welcomed or Substitutes are needed if you don’t want to make a bigger commitment.

Volunteer opportunities monthly with the Hab Center, Our Fathers Soup Kitchen and Grace Place School    There are other opportunities throughout the year.

We also have occasional fundraisers thru out the year and themed socials; such as, picnics, theatre events, teas, seasonal parties, etc.
